He stepped into the shower, pulling the curtain closed behind him, shielding him from the light of the world. The water started pouring over him the minute he turned the switch on, hot and steamy, just the way he always preferred it. He let the heat burn his skin, letting it boil away the dirt, the impurities that covered his body. He started scrubbing himself all over, violently abusing the soap, trying to wash off the layer he could never get rid of. It was a daily routine by now. As a child, I was never afraid of monsters. I was, for a lack of better words, fascinated by them. When I was little, there was a monster hiding underneath my bed. He came to me every night, in hopes of scaring me, like he did with all other little children. With his dark shape, wild hair, and odd frame, his shadows always plastered the most beautiful images against my satin sheets and white walls.
